‘1-Village, 1-Dam’ to start by April, MP says ‘on authority’

January 31, 2018
Farms will be irrigated all-year with the coming in force of the policy

The Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, says work on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ‘One-Village, One-Dam’ policy will begin latest by April, this year.

He said he has seen documents to that effect and, so, he is saying that on authority.

Mr Kpemka, who doubles as a Deputy Minister of Justice, said he can be taken on if the project does not begin in March/April, as stated.

He gave this undertaking on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday while discussing the recent announcement by the Ghana Water Company Limited to embark on a water-rationing exercise.

He said the condition in the north becomes more serious in the dry season.

But the policy of government to construct dams at various locations in the Upper East, Upper West and Northern regions is expected to stem the seasonal drought experienced, he noted.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) made the promise of constructing a dam in each village in the three main northern regions, during the 2016 electioneering campaign.

The ‘1-Village, 1-Dam’ policy is expected to make agriculture an all-year round programme for farmers in the north.

Water from the various dams is expected to be used to irrigate farms.

Mr Kpemka said the ‘1-Village, 1-Dam’ programme will bring much relief to many including his constituents.
