We’ll be happy if Mahama contests in 2020 – NPP Elder

Mahama hinted of contesting again at NDC’s 25th anniversary durbar

An elder of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the party is not perturbed about the 2020 elections if the former President, John Mahama, will contest.

Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffour said the NPP will ‘beat’ him if he comes because with all the alleged stealing during the 2016 elections, the NPP won with over one million votes.

The former President Mahama reportedly gave indication to lead the NDC in the 2020 polls when he used scenarios to declare his intent to the party members at a rally to mark the Silver anniversary celebration at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday.

According to him, “In the 2016 elections, we did our best but what we were expecting God did not give to us. Some time ago, I was watching a video on social media in which some people were running, women. They run for first round, second round and third round, but the frontrunner fell, thereby those following overtook the frontrunner. I thought the frontrunner who fell will decide to examine herself to know whether she had sustained some injuries, instead she stood up and decide to follow them. I was so surprised, so I decided to see the outcome of the running in the video. She followed them until last minute when she overtook them to emerge victor”.

Reacting to these assertions on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Tuesday, Dr. Amoako Tuffour said if they lost to the NPP when in power with such a huge gap.

“It means he can’t come [back] from opposition”.

He said he [former President Mahama] might have realized his mistakes but that does not mean he will be successful if he contest the 2020 elections.

Rawlings praises NPP consistency

On the former President Jerry John Rawlings praise that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been consistent in holding on to its values, Dr. Amoako Tuffour said “Rawlings does not have time to talk rubbish. It is his observation and I think he is bitter his party is not consistent so I believe in it and I find him credible”.

He said people do not agree with him [Rawlings] in most of the things he says but this is true because “we [NPP] have been consistent in all our dealings”.
