Traders at the Assakae market in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly of the western region will soon breath a sigh of relief when the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation completes a modern toilet facility for them.
The provision of the 12-seater facility with 6 bathrooms and a mechanized borehole means the traders will not have to walk long distances to ease themselves or access such facilities.
The lack of the washroom facilities was impacting negatively on sanitation at the market.
At a sod cutting ceremony at the market where the project was handed over to the contractor, manager of projects at the GNPC Foundation, Patience Lartey, explained the rationale is to satisfy one of the pillars of the Foundation; sanitation in our environment.
“We visited some markets to assess the sanitation conditions and zeroed in on the Assakae market because we saw a dire need for it”, Patience Lartey said.
The market women who could not hide their joy expressed the hope that the six months timeline will be met.
Coordinating director for the assembly, Samuel Nana Andoh Mensah expressed excitement about the project and assured the foundation of the Assembly’s full support.
