Upper Denkyira West gets new DCE

Assembly members of Upper Denkyira West District in the Central Region have confirmed Agyemang Asiedu as the new Chief Executive.

Members gave the new district chief executive (DCE) a resounding 20 out of 22 valid votes cast on Thursday to get a replacement for Daniel Appianin.

Mr Appianin was suspended for comments he made after the lynching of Major Maxwell Adams Mahama at Denkyira Obuasi in May, 2017.

He is said to have denied knowledge of the presence of an anti-galamsey military task force led by then Captain Mahama.

He was suspended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Add, who launched investigations into the comments, which many found heartless.

The town has since been renamed New Obuasi while President Akufo-Addo has communicated the nation’s forgiveness.

Mr Asiedu is expected to begin work immediately.

Later speaking on 3FM, Mr Asiedu said his election was the handiwork of God and expressed gratitude to the assembly members for giving him the nod.
