Speaker of Parliament to be sworn in as President

Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye[/caption] Parliament is expected to reconvene on Sunday for a short ceremony, which will see the Speaker, Reverend Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, sworn in as Acting President of Ghana. The recall is at the instance of First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be out of Ghana to attend the investiture of George Maneh Oppon Weah on Monday while his vice, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has also travelled to the United Kingdom for his medical leave on the advice of his doctors. READ: Bawumia flies to UK on doctors’ advice In accordance with constitutional provision, precisely Article 60 (11) of the 1992 Constitution, the Speaker is expected to act until any of the two resumes performance of his functions. The Right Honourable himself had travelled out of the country but he is expected to be back on Saturday. The summon to the 275 MPs by the First Deputy Speaker is in accordance with Standing Order 42(3) of Parliament.
