Man, 22, hangs himself in police cell

A 22-year-old James Yaw Doggi has hanged himself at the Oforikrom police cell in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The deceased allegedly hanged himself with a piece of woolen carpet few hours after his arrest and detention. A senior police officer at the Manhyia Divisional Police Command who confirmed the incident said the deceased was arrested in the morning on Friday December 29, 2017. The late Doggi, a father of one, girl, and a carpenter was picked up by police after his wife, Benice Akorle lodged a complaint against him at the Oforikrom police station. It is not clear what was the nature of the complaint, but his mother, Madam Akua Janado who could not hold her tears is demanding a swift investigation into the case to unravel circumstances leading to his alleged suicide under police custody.
