Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has made an audacious vow to determine who gets executive positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the constituency to the national level. Mr Boasiako who is popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi claimed his unnoticed influence on the top hierarchy and grassroots of the NDC contributed to the party’s abysmal performance in the 2016 general elections. In line with his agenda, he told a gathering of NPP constituency executives at Agona in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency on Friday that he has already influenced the just ended nationwide membership registration of the NDC. “I am going to decide for the NDC from constituency to constituencies,” he told the NPP executives in English but added in Twi “I’ve influenced their registration; in due time, i will come out to prove to them”. Chairman Wontumi is seeking for a second term as the regional chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti Region. Friday’s gathering with the executives climaxed his 3 day tour of the region, and all the 47 constituencies have endorsed him for a second term. Boasting of his track record, Chairman Wontumi said “I have done it before and i am going to make sure that I decide for them [the NDC]”. Making a case to support his claim that he influenced the NDC executives ahead of the 2016 elections, he said hardly does opposition party win power in the first round of election but “because we decided for them, we won in the first round”. In his estimation, NPP executives cannot be influenced with money by the NDC, saying “money cannot influence NPP executives… So we are going to decide for NDC because 2020 election is very important [for us]”. Mr. Antwi-Boasiako has thus warned the NDC to watch out for his influence in the executive elections in September this year. Meanwhile, he has told the NPP executive his greatest ambition is to see the NPP break the country’s election record by winning elections beyond 2024. By 3news.com|Ghana]]>
