This initiative is by the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development in partnership with Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited supported by the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly. The Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development as part of its social and health components is piloting three modern sports complexes in the country for 2018 and the first project has kicked start in Walewale. Though the three regions in the north lack good sports facilities, they have been  able to produce good sports personalities like Abedi Pele, Mohammed Gargo,  Ibrahim Sunday, Hamza Mohammed, Ali Jara and the likes. It is hoped that when completed in the next three months, the sports complex will boost sporting, social, religious and political activities in the West Mamprusi municipality. The first phase of the project will have artificial pitch (Astro Turf), changing room, washroom, and a conference room. The second phase will include basket ball court, volley ball court and running tracks. At a ceremony to officially break the grounds for the commencement of the project in Walewale, the Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Boniface said the development of zongos and slums is dear to the heart of the president and would ensure a rapid development of the zongos and inner cities. The Municipal Chief Executive of West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly, Abu Mohammed said the sports complex is a fulfillment of promise he made to the people in the municipality during last year’s Ramadan celebrations. He said the project will go a long way to promote sports in the municipality. Nana Antwi, the General Manager of Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, the company in charge of the construction of the sports complex, reiterated the need for north to have a lot of international standard sport facilities due to the sports personalities Ghana has produced from that part of the country. He therefore assured the government of their commitment in fulfilling their part of the agreement in completing the first phase of the project and subsequently starting with the second phase with resources available to them. TV3 Sports spoke to the West Mamprusi Municipal Football Association Chairman, Issah Murtala who expressed his joy and satisfaction at the project and he is optimistic of a team from the district gaining promotion to the Ghana premiership.
