CAF boss Ahmad Ahmad says he believes beyond reasonable doubt that Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world at the moment. Salah has enjoyed an incredible first season since making the move from Rome to England last summer. The 25-year-old Egyptian has since bagged a total of 41 goals for his side in all competitions – one shy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s best goal-scoring season in England. Salah’s exploits has earned him both admiration and plaudits from players, fans and top football personalities including the President of CAF. Ahmad made the proclamation on Monday when he arrived in Ghana, where he was to be conferred with an honourary doctorate by the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). Salah won the African Player of the Year in January this year and Ahmad is in no doubt that the continent made the right choice. “It is not only Caf president but the whole Africa will be. It shows we made the best choice. I am very happy with that,” he said. Salah has netted 7 times for Liverpool in the Champions League and are in the semis for the first time in a decade without having lost a game. Many have compared his work for Liverpool this season to that of Messi’s in Barcelona. Messi has scored 40 goals this season for Barcelona including two in the Copa De Rey final last weekend but Ahmad still believes that his compatriot is ahead of the Argentine. “Even if Liverpool win the Champions League, maybe he can be in the three best players in the world because the performance of the team he plays, the national team is important in the choice of the best player in the world. “If he has a big chance, why not. Honestly, it is not Messi who is the best now. Salah is,” Ahmad affirmed. If Mohamed Salah manages to nick the Ballon D’Or this year, it will be the first time an African player has won it since George Weah did in 1995. By Yaw Ofosu Larbi|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
