Kumasi Asante Kotoko are out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 6-7 on penalties to Cara Club of Congo in Brazzaville on Wednesday. The Kumasi club played a great game but went down by a lone goal after 90 minutes to finish the tie 1-1 on aggregate after they won the first leg at home by a lone goal from the penalty spot in dramatic circumstances. The Porcupine Warriors squandered 3 penalties out of the 4 they got in the game. Sadick Adams, Amos Frimpong and Baba Mahama, took turns to miss from the spot. They travelled to Congo full of confidence and goodwill that they were going to pull the rabbit out of the hat but the Congolese side scored in the 30th minutes to ensure that the game went into penalties; an aspect of the game Kotoko dread the most. Obed Owusu, Kwame Boahene, Amos Frimpong and Jackson Owusu missed their kicks in a penalty marathon that spanned 20 kicks for each side. Kotoko will feel hard down by that result in Congo giving that they had practiced penalties all through the preparatory period before the game. Their twitter account made it a priority to remind us of how important getting a goal from the penalty spot meant to them. In the end, Kotoko exited the CAF Confederations Cup without a goal from open play, 7 missed penalties and a group of crestfallen fans who felt this could possibly be another year for the Porcupine.
