KMA sets up committee to unearth sport talents

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has launched a Youth and Sports Development Sub-Committee to uplift the image of sporting activities in the Kumasi metropolis. Speaking at a ceremony to officially outdoor the committee, KMA Chief Executive Osei Assibey Antwi, said Kumasi is known to be a haven for outstanding sporting talents. He said many talented footballers were first discovered in Kumasi. However, in recent years the neglect of promising stars by stakeholders, he said, has resulted in a sharp decline or in some cases, the non-development of some sporting discipline. The mayor of Kumasi said the establishment of the Youth and Sports Development Committee will help prepare a better future for the youth, who are talented in various sports. “The greatest asserts each and every country can have is your youth and so if you are able to lay out very good and solid structures to bring out your youth then you can hit your chest with the determination that you have a better future,” he said. He stressed that colts teams in  Kumasi metropolis will be supported. Skills of colts managers will also be upgraded. The committee consists of veteran football icons like Opoku Nti, Opoku Afriyie and other Assembly members. Members of the committee have been mandated to see to the development of various sporting disciplines and also unearth talents in the metropolis. A set of jerseys and footballs were presented to 70 schools and 47 colts teams present at the launch. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, the board chairman of the National Sports Authority, applauded KMA for the intiiative.
