Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly to turn waste into energy

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) is expected to generate 300 megawatts of energy daily from waste starting 2018.

The initiative of turning waste into energy by the Assembly is under government’s flagship policy, one district one factory.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer for STMA, Anthony K. K. Sam announced this during the Assembly’s town hall meeting to disseminate government’s policies (both implemented and yet to be implemented ones) to residents.

He said the project will require a volume of 300 tons of waste a day to enable a production capacity of 300 megawatts energy.

He said the assembly will be liaising with neighboring districts to collect waste to supplement the internally generated one.

The mayor stressed that the generated energy would be distributed to only residents within the metropolis.
