Martin Amidu[/caption] The Appointments Committee of Parliament has recommended by consensus for approval Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor. According to the Committee’s report, sighted by www.3news.com, the former Attorney General meets the requisite characteristics of the position. Sections of the report signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, described the Special Prosecutor nominee as one “with independent mindedness, selfless, solid principles and an in-depth appreciation of the task ahead backed by his onerous experience, knowledge of the law and his promise to be above political colourization.” The report stated the satisfaction of the Committee with the nomination of Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor. “The Committee having satisfied itself that the nomination of Mr. Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu by His Excellency the President as Special Prosecutor is in conformity with the Office of Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) and also persuaded that the candidate has the requisite integrity, competence, courage, determination, sense of purpose, independence of character and a mind suitable for the position accordingly, recommend by an overwhelming majority decision, the House to approve the appointment of the nominee by consensus.” However, one member, Suhuyini Alhasaan Sayibu, voted against the nominee’s approval by the House. Meanwhile, MP for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Ayine is calling on Parliament not to go ahead with the approval of the Special Prosecutor nominee because of a suit pending at the Supreme Court challenging the eligibility of the nomination.
