There was an unpleasant situation at the NPP headquarters as the party’s security guards assaulted journalists. A cameraman of online portal, Ghanaweb who received punches on the face was later admitted at a nearby hospital. The journalist was filming a demonstration at the party headquarters when he was attacked with other journalists including a TV reporter covering the same event. The demonstration at the headquarters was against the party’s Western Regional chairman whom they accused of influencing the choice of delegates at the Ellembelle constituency. TV3’s reporter Godfred Tanam who was at the scene of assault said some machomen also seized the keys to a TV3 car, which they later returned grudgingly. He saw the Ghanaweb cameraman bleeding from the nose after being “hit hard” by the security guards at NPP’s headquarters. Ahead of the  upcoming NPP’s constituency elections, preparations are underway for the registration process.  The demonstrators claimed the constituency chairman for Ellembelle has hijacked the registration documents, and instead given them A4 sheets for the exercise. This the constituents saw as a ploy by the chairman to use any means possible to retain power. The demonstrators also claimed the acting National Chairman of NPP, Freddy Blay had advised the constituency chairman that he would be voted out if he does not look sharp. This among other issues triggered the demonstration at the party’s headquarters in Accra Thursday where the members  had gathered to register their displeasure, leading to the assault on journalists.
