CDG claims Akufo-Addo (L) does not want to work with Charlotte Osei (R)[/caption] Anti-government pressure group, the Coalition of Democratic Governance (CDG), says the ongoing process seeking the impeachment of the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) must be challenged. According to the group, it is more of a political witch hunt than a legal adventure. In a press release dated December 18, 2017, CDG said there were three petitions submitted to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but he chose to follow up on the first two, glossing over the one against the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo. “Certainly the President could have ignored the first two petitions as he did to the third petition,” it said. It cited how the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills had ignored a petition to have then Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, impeached. But it appears to the pressure group that Mr Akufo-Addo does not want to work with Charlotte Osei. “For us in the CDG, the EC is a major independent institution of governance. Any attempt therefore by the Executive to usurp the independence and power of the EC destroys the basic pillar of our Democratic governance and must be challenged,” the statement signed by Chief Convener Dr E. K. Hayford concluded. Source: 3news.com|Ghana ]]>
