The Law, which was promulgated by Parliament in November, 2017, was assented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, January 2, together with four other bills. Prior to its passing, there were talks that the opposition, especially members of the previous government, feared being exposed of corrupt acts they might have engaged in. Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise on Wednesday, the NDC General Secretary of more than a decade said, “I am happy that government has eventually listened”. He, however, raised concerns about the eventual appointee to that position. According to him, Ghanaians are yet to find an antidote to the partiality of the Attorney General in prosecuting members of his or her government. “That is the problem we are trying to solve,” he said, “so if you proceed to appoint another person with those same allegiance, then it means that we are back to Square One.” He fingered the current Attorney General as being incapable of holding to account members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government “because she is a member and cabinet minister of the NPP government”.
