Akufo-Addo condemns New York terror attack

File photo[/caption] Ghana’s president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned last Tuesday’s terrorist attack in New York that left eight people dead and 12 injured. “I was deeply shocked by the terror attacks in the lower Manhattan area of New York City… We stand in solidarity with the city of New York in condemning the activities of terrorists,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon. A 29-year-old man Sayfullo Saipov from Uzbek allegedly used a truck  to plow down pedestrians and cyclists on a New York bike path on October 31, killing eight people, the US media reported. According to the BBC, the victims were five Argentines, who had travelled to New York to celebrate 30 years since their high school graduation, a young mother from Belgium and two Americans. Saipov was put before court Wednesday in a wheelchair and faces federal terrorism charges, which means the government could override New York state’s ban on capital punishment, the BBC reported. US will emerge stronger Commenting on the incident, Nana Akufo-Addo expressed the condelences of the people of Ghana to the American people, saying “Let me convey on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana and on my own behalf our deepest condolences to you and the people of America”.
