As part of efforts to entrench its position as the industry leader as far as election coverage is concerned, Media General, mother company of TV3 and its sister stations – 3Fm, Onua Fm, Connect Fm, Akoma Fm and 3news.com has launched a new political program called ‘The Platform’.
The rationale behind the concept is to give all the political parties vying in the 2016 elections a leveled playing field to address Ghanaians and tell them what their plans and policies are for the country if given the mandate.
Chief Operations Officer of TV3, Winfred Afful noted at the launch that Media General (MG), as a market leader is poised to give comprehensive coverage to all political parties and all major political activities in the lead up to the elections later this year.
“We are the Election Command Center and we are already running some political programs. We have +275 which is for all parliamentary aspirants, is running on TV3’s New Day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ‘Constituency Link’ which focuses on the various constituencies, their concerns, how their voting pattern has been and what would influence their voting in the upcoming elections, has also been airing on Midday Live.
“One other key program which brings together competent social commentators to discuss topical national issues has also started airing. It’s called ‘Eye On The Seat.’ All these are meant to ensure that we help our viewers make an informed decision on voting day.”
He further indicated that ‘Kokromoti’ which is a specially designed program for Onua 95.1 Fm is already airing and ‘Community Connect’ is also running on 3Fm 92.7 Mhz.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), the Peoples National Convention (PNC), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and the All Peoples Congress (APC) were all present at the balloting session to choose which day they would be appearing to address Ghanaians.
There are other key programs yet to be rolled out, targeted at throwing the spotlight on minority groups e.g physically challenged persons, women, first time voters etc who would all be participating in the elections.
The party representatives applauded TV3 and its sister stations for the thought and decision to give the political parties the mileage to reach voters to help them sell their message. The show would be aired on all of the MG platforms simultaneously.
