Parliament welcomes Bryan Acheampong as he takes oath of office

Bryan in Parliament

Bryan Acheampong was Wednesday sworn-in by the Speaker of Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Abetifi in the Eastern region.

He was the winner of last Saturday’s by-election at the constitution following the death of NPP’s Peter Wiafe Peprah in May this year.

The New Patriotic Party MP polled 14,015 votes representing 89.9 per cent to beat three other contestants in an election that saw less than 40 of the registered voters participating.

Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho congratulated him for his election to the august house, TV3 parliamentary correspondent Evelyn Tengmaa reported.

Doe Adjaho advised him to represent all the people of Abetifi and not only supporters of the NPP or persons he perceived to have voted for him.

The Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu advised the new MP to familiarize himself with the Standing Orders of the house as well as the Constitution of Ghana if he wants to be a strong force in the house.

While urging Bran to be truthful and avoid propaganda, the Minority Leader added that he cannot be a good player if he fails to go by the rules

Deputy Majority Leader, Alfred Agbesi reiterated the need for Bryan to abide by the oath he took before the house, and should also comport himself in and outside parliament.

In response, Bryan Acheampong promised his constituents that he would not let them down for the confidence reposed in him.
“People feel that Kwahu is an urban constituency. Abetifi is deprived, end to end only 15 to 20% have access to water and good road…I am in parliament as an advocate to end these things, water, sanitation, roads and employment are the key reasons why I run for this election.”
