The Karaga Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Tahiru Zakaria and three others have been granted bail by a Circuit Court in Tamale on Wednesday.
The three are Baba Ali Osman, Mohammed Alhassan and Abdullai Ziblim.
The four were arrested on October 27 and charged with “rioting with offensive weapons”.
They were reported to have led a group of angry NPP youth wielding cutlasses and knives to cause damage to a Yamaha motor belonging to the District Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency and creating lawless situation in the area.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yussif Tanko told 3news.com, “they are to deposit GHS 5,000 each with two sureties”.
The NPP Chairman and the three are to reappear in court on November 15, 2017.
The four were arrested in the Dinduri community about one kilometer from Karaga on October 27, 2017 by the police reinforcement team dispatched to the district after some New Patriotic Party Youth burnt down the Yahama motorbike belonging to the District Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency, one Osman.
They had accused Osman of recruiting non-party members and persons they called aliens into the YEA. The NPP Constituency Chairman subsequently summoned the Coordinator and the District Chief Executive Alhassan Yabdow to answer questions.
Later some disgruntled NPP youth attacked the DCE’s house and locked his office, threatening to kill him.
