Some residents of Bulahagu, a suburb of Tamale opened fire on police officers who had gone on a rescue mission in the vicinity. According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yussif Tanko, the police received information of an attack on a supposed witch at about 7:30pm Sunday January 7, 2018 in Bulahagu. The command swiftly dispatched officers to the rescue of the said woman Meimunatu Niendow, 35. She was founded in a torched house with bruises all over her body with a mob surrounding her. In an attempt to rescue Meimunatu, the mob vented their anger on the police officers by firing at them amidst pelting of stones. The team quickly sped off in their vehicle but met a blockage set up by the mob, which temporarily stalled their escape. When they managed to go past it and drove back to the headquarters, they “noticed some holes on the vehicle”, ASP Tanko narrated. “When the vehicle was examined, we found holes of AK 47, a clear indication that the mob had planned killing the police officers,” ASP Tanko said. He said the case has been booked and the police will ensure the perpetrators are brought to book. By Zubaida Ismail | 3news.com | Ghana]]>
