Leadership of GIS[/caption] The Western Regional Command of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) repatriated hundreds of illegitimate foreign nationals from the region, a senior officer has said. Speaking on the sidelines of the Service’s end-of-year dinner and awards night in Takoradi, the Western Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCI) Dr. Prosper Asima mentioned that due to some unapproved routes, controlling entries of some of these nationals become a challenge. Dr. Asima said officers are constantly deployed to patrol such routes to ensure sanity and legal entries. He said letters have been sent to institutions employing foreign nationals to submit annual returns of all those persons. Dr Asima also said a task force has been visiting hospitality centers to ensure the legitimacy of foreign nationals lodging there. He noted that illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey, has been a setback to their operations but they are working closely with Operation Vanguard, the joint anti-galamsey task frce, to clamp down on illegal foreign nationals engaged in the menace and its related activities. He applauded service men who exhibited excellence in the course of discharging duties in 2017. He maintained that amidst dilapidated structures and deplorable service conditions, they strived to keep the borders of the region safe for the citizenry.
