Nurses at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital have escalated the demand for the removal of the hospital’s medical director among other concerns as they stage a sit-down strike from Thursday morning. According to Onua FM’s Central regional correspondent Kwame Kakraba, the Nurses have reported to work but indications are that they are not going to work. One of the nurses who pleaded for anonymity, told our correspondent that a directive from their leaders asked them to report but not to work. The Out Patient Department of the hospital has been closed with other major wards with the Nurses who have reported to work seen walking about while others sit in groups. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital Workers Union, Daniel Danso Sarpong told Bright Kwesi Asempa, host of Onua FM morning show that they will continue to stay away from work until their demands are heeded. He said, “We need a better working condition, peaceful mind and above all, we want our Medical Director Dr. Eugene Dordoye go because we are no longer safe under him”. The workers union Chairman alleged that Dr. Eugene Dordoye has become a law unto himself, abusing the rights of nurses. “Can you imagine Dr. Eugene Dordoye would ask the nurses to go and do kitchen works as well as environmental duty when they are supposed to be taking care of our patients, is that what they are trained for?” he asked in bewilderment. He insisted that the only thing that will appease them is when the Health Minister listens to them and remove Dr. Eugene Dordoye from the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. He accused medical director of misappropriating funds meant for operations of the facility. “Dr. Eugene Dordoye used over 200, 000 Ghana Cedis to renovate his house and we are not going to rest until he is removed. That is the only thing we want” By Bright Dzakah/Onua Fm/3news.com]]>
