Four Chinese, three Ghanaian illegal miners arrested in Twifo-Atti-Morkwa

File[/caption] Four Chinese and three Ghanaian illegal miners operating in the Pra River in Twifo Abuboi in the Central Region have been arrested. The illegal small-scale miners were arrested by the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Assembly’s Anti-Galamsey Task Force, part of which is the Twifo Praso Police. They were handed over to the Regional Police Command for further action. Speaking to Onua FM’s Central Region correspondent after the arrests, the District Chief Executive of Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi said the exercise was necessary to clamp down on illegal mining popularly known as galamsey in the district. According to him, the foreign suspects’ names were given are Lu-Zhenming, 47, Fang Xueming, 43, Huang Zufu, 36, and Huang Zujun, 40. The Ghanaians are Afenyi Emmanmuel, 30, George Mensah, 42, and Simon Nda, 26. Lattif Gimah, 47, and Stephen Segoe, 52, were later arrested at the galamsey site during the operation. Some of the machines confiscated were an excavator, a diesel pump, welding machine, water pump, and chanfan man-made machines, dolma machine, gold scale and chainsaw machine. Eleven fake Ghanaian IDs and four Chinese passports were also seized. The DCE commended the team for the spirit and resilience in undertaking the operation. He, however, expressed concern in the numerous incidents of illegal mining inside the Pra River, saying accusing fingers are even being pointed at him.
