Antwi-Bosiako who spent Tuesday night in police cells was charged with conspiracy to commit assault and committing assault at the Asokwa District Magistrate Court on Wednesday morning.
Bernard Antwi-Bosiako known as Chairman Wontumi, backed by thugs, allegedly assaulted New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwa, and the party’s Constituency Secretary Felix Ibrahim at a registration centre in Krofom last week.
The two lodged a complaint with the police and Chairman Wontumi was arrested and detained at the Kumasi Central Police Station, Tuesday.
Chairman Wontumi was defended in court by lawyers including Egbert Faibille Jnr, Kwabena Kokofu, Kwame Adom Appiah and Ohene Gyan.
The court presided over by Owusu Achaw Korkor granted him bail in the sum of GH 20,000 with two sureties.
One of the sureties should have a landed property or deposit an amount of 10,000cedis.
The case was adjourned to June 1, 2016.
Meanwhile, the Manhyia North MP, Collins Amankwa, and Felix Ibrahim, have agreed to settle the case out of court.
Their lawyer, Shadrack Yeboah-Obeng of Obeng-Manu Law Firm in a letter dated May 4, 2016, informed the Ashanti Regional Police Commander about the decision taken by the complainants.
“Our clients are the complainants in the above mentioned case against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako @ Chairman Wontumi. Our clients have instructed us of their decision to pursue settlement and have accordingly instructed us to serve you notice of their said intention,” the letter said in part.
