Ignore ‘dumsor’ timetable making the rounds – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana has asked the public to disregard any timetable making the rounds on social media platforms purporting to be a load-shedding guide.

A two-week load shedding management timetable said to take effect from August 1, surfaced on social media last Friday after persistent calls to the ECG to provide same in the wake of unannounced electricity outages in the country.

But the ECG has denied knowledge of such timetable and advised the public, particularly its customers to “ignore the supposed load shedding timetable currently in the public domain”.

In a statement issued on its website Saturday, the ECG categorically denied it has issued any such loadshedding timetable.

“The national load shedding committee chaired by Ing. William Amuna- CEO of GRIDCo, has not advised ECG on any such schedule,” the statement said.

Ghanaians have in the past month been affected by unannounced electricity outages something that has caused a lot of uneasiness, triggering frustration and anger among the public

The ECG has explained the current outages, which affects six regions, has been the results of inadequate power from its generators to supply to customers.

“In order to prevent the entire network system from collapsing, the Transmission Company, GRIDCo informs ECG to shed load immediately. In fact, in some instances, GRIDCo curtails power supply before informing ECG,” the ECG said in a statement issued on July 5.

It noted that in view of the situation, ECG is unable to inform it customers ahead of time.

“ECG’s mandate is to distribute power produced by generation companies, therefore we do not have all the facts about the challenges the generation companies face,” it added.

Although President John Mahama has admitted there are challenges facing the power sector but said not declare a return to load shedding in the country
