Ghana on Saturday took centre stage at the ongoing Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Zimbabwe with the showcasing of some of its traditional delicacies.
Dubbed ‘Ghana Day’, the team from Ghana led by Mrs. Nancy Sam Quartey, president of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana, presented some of the rich Ghanaian foods to participants at the expo.Waakye, gari fortor, ampesi made from yam with palavasauce and plantain chips among other delicacies were served at the event for people to taste as they were given the nutritional value and ingredients of each of the meal.
Some of the participants were overwhelmed by the nutritional value of Ghanaian food and the fact that the people of Ghana enjoy about 95 per cent these foods on a daily basis.Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Ghana who is familiar with Ghanaian food said, “they really have a lot of respect for their traditional food because they’re healthy and they have longevity. They live up to 100 years and above.
“We also have similar food but we are also going back to our traditional food like they do in West Africa. We are also emulating,” she added, and con congratulated Ghana on its special day at the expo.
Patrons of the Ghana Day event were also treated to good Ghanaian music.
The tourism expo, which started Thursday at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds, Bulawayo, and ends on Sunday, brought together different players in the travel and tourism value chain from across Zimbabwe, Africa and the rest of the world.
