Former GFA boss passes on

Ben Koufie served as GFA Chairman betweem 2001 and 2003

Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Benjamin Koufie has passed away.

The technical brain passed away on Monday, July 4 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

He died aged 84.

Ben Koufie, as he was affectionately called, started his sports career as a footballer at erstwhile Cornerstones and later joined Ebusua Dwarfs.

He went on to play for the Black Stars and became their coach much later.

His coaching career also took him to Zimbabwe and Botswana.

He led Asante Kotoko and Great Olympics to continental club competitions and also worked for La Cote d’Ivoire’s Africa Sports.

Until his death, Ben Koufie was a technical training officer for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The GFA and other Premier League clubs have paid tribute to the former player and coach.
