A system malfunction of electronic collation at the Amenfi East Constituency in the Western Region has caused election results to be swapped between contesting parties in the constituency.
Results of the National Democratic Congress and that of the Convention People’s Party in particular were swapped by the electronic system after officials inputted the figures from the various polling stations.
Our correspondent on the ground, Kow Richardson, reported that the system error was discovered by the New Patriotic Party after three results were entered into the electronic database.
“After entering three results, the software being used to send the results to EC Headquarters started changing the results,” he reported.
The situation, he reported, triggered commotion at the centre which is being housed at the Amenfi East District Assembly Hal, thus halting the collation exercise temporarily.
Our correspondent said after back and forth between the NPP and NDC representatives, the parties agreed with the EC officials that the collation of the results be done manually.
“The parties have agreed to do manual collation. They all now have their pink sheet and are now doing the collation on Excel, then all [party agents] will sign,” our correspondent reported
