Eid-ul Adha: NDC, NPP wish Muslims well

Muslims in Ghana's Kumasi marking the Eid with prayers

Ghana’s two major political parties have taken time off to wish Ghanaian Muslims a happy Eid-ul Adha.

Muslims across the country join the global community to celebrate the sacrifice Ibrahim made to Allah.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) extends its warmest felicitation to Muslims on the occasion of Eid Ul- Adha,” a statement titled ‘NDC commends Muslims for Sacrifices’ said.

Signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the statement pledged the ruling party’s association with the occasion “as it provides the opportunity for Muslims throughout the world to pray for peace, tolerance and Allah’s blessings, irrespective of colour, religion, creed and tribe for the development of the nation”.

“Whiles congratulating Muslims on this occasion, the NDC wishes to commend them for their selflessness and commitment towards unity and peaceful co-existence among all faiths in the country.”

NDC called on Ghanaians to emulate Muslims by staying united “in the country’s quest to pool resources towards the transformation of the country”.

“Also, we urge Ghanaians not to entertain any act that has the tendency to disturb the peace currently prevailing in the country especially as the country goes to the polls at the end of the year.

“The NDC is convinced that Allah, in His merciful nature, would accept the prayers and sacrifices of our brothers and sisters and also bring our pilgrims back home safely.”

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) acknowledged the “fervent” prayers for peace and development offered by Muslims.

“By this statement, we also join the Muslim fraternity in the world in marking this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca,” stated John Boadu, the Acting General Secretary.

“Our prayer is for Allah to ensure the safety of all the pilgrims throughout their stay there and their return home.”

The party called for peaceful co-existence between Muslims and other religions especially as the country goes to the polls later in the year.

“While we do so, let us also see it as a divine duty to ensure that all stakeholders carry out their mandates in a manner that will be in the collective interest of our dear country.

“We are convinced with Nana Akufo-Addo, our Presidential candidate, and his Running Mate, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, well positioned to execute the patriotic duty of rescuing our sinking country, you will continue to remember our party in your prayers, to ensure that the Change Agenda we are set on delivering for the nation comes into reality.”
