UMAT named after George Paa Grant

The University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa has been named after George Paa Grant who founded the UGCC and was very instrumental in the processes leading to the attainment of Ghana’s independence. At a ceremony which took place at the university campus at Tarkwa in the Western region, the new name of the university, which is the George Grant University of Mines and Technology was unveiled. Present at the ceremony were the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former president John Agyekum Kufuor and some leaders of the NPP. President Akudo-Addo lauded the decision of the university council to name the school after such a great man. “It is a most excellent decision, and it is only fitting that this great man should be properly honoured by the grateful Ghanaians,” President Akufo-Addo said. The president further commended the late statesman for his contribution towards Ghana’s independence and freedom.
