Those home will be traced to undergo same vaccination[/caption]
The Ghana Health Service has started vaccinating students and staff of Kumasi Academy Senior High School to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.
The Service has also hinted of tracing absentee students to their various homes to vaccinate them.
Over 2,000 students of KUMACA have so far received their vaccination since the beginning of the exercise on Thursday.
Some parents and media personnel were also part of the exercise due to their frequent visits to the school.
Ashanti Region Deputy Director of Public Health Dr Yeboah Awudzi says the students have turned out in their numbers to be vaccinated against the virus.
“We are impressed about the voluntary turnout of students and some parents to be vaccinated. The process has so far been smooth and we have not received any adverse effect of the drug.”
Dr Awudzi assured the public that the H1N1 influenza virus has been contained and all KUMACA students who were on admission have been discharged.
“We have not recorded any new case for the past one week and all the students who were on admission have been discharged.”
Four KUMACA students lost their lives in less than a month after contracting the H1N1 virus.
Health officials say they have strengthened surveillance among the students to prevent further spread of the virus.
The vaccination exercise is expected to end on Friday but the health directorate intends to leave some skeletal staff in the school to vaccinate students and staff who will come later.
