Trade Ministry cleared of any wrongdoing in expat money extortion saga

The Minister of Trades and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, did not do any wrong in charging expatriates to sit near President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at an awards ceremony, a statement has indicated. Neither did a government official commit any wrongdoing in the deal, the statement said. This comes as part of a response to a query by President Akufo-Addo. The President – through the Chief of Staff – had written to Mr Kyerematen on Wednesday to explain the circumstances that led to the charging of expatriates between $25,000 and $100,000 to sit near him at the recently held Ghana Expatriates Business Awards (GEBA). “The Minister for Trade has since responded to the President’s query,” the statement signed by the Minister of Information on Thursday said. “The facts, as reported to the President, do not disclose any wrong doing on the part of the Minister or any government official. “The President has therefore asked the Minister to put those facts before the Ghanaian people.” Ghanaians therefore await the explanation of Mr Kyerematen.
