President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the savings from the procurement strategies his government employed in 2017 have become an incentive to open up the processes. According to him, the savings made over the year amounted to GH¢ 145 million from sole-sourcing and restricted tendering. Juxtaposing this to 2016 under the John Dramani Mahama government, he said 98 per cent of sole-sourcing requests were approved amounting to zilch savings. Addressing journalists in what is only his second media encounter since becoming president, Nana Akufo-Addo said 56.6 per cent of sole-sourcing requests were approved against 43.6 per cent rejection. He said all these have contributed to the improvement in macroeconomic fundamentals with the debt situation also improving significantly. The procurement process has also been given a boost, he added. “As my own Mathematics teacher used to say, you cannot argue with figures and such figures surely provide the incentive to open up government procurement.” By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana  ]]>
