Premix fuel supply to OMCs, others engaged in illegal acts stopped

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ms. Afoley Quaye[/caption] Supply of premix fuel to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) involved in the illegal diversion of the products has been ceased by the National Premix Fuel Committee as part of measures being taken to end such acts. The unnamed OMCs as well as some landing beach committees and transporters have been accused of not delivering the premix fuel they lift from the Tema Oil Refinery to the desired destination. The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has since January 2017 cited over 230 cases of premix fuel diversion in the country. A joint statement issued by the Energy Ministry, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, the National Petroleum Authority and the National Premix Fuel Committee assured the public that pragmatic steps are being taken to sanitise the system. In line with that, it said all premix fuel outlets must be reviewed and those that do not meet the requirements closed down, as well as in increased and wider stakeholder consultation in a bid to reform the premix sector. Supply of premix fuel to the lake region will be restricted to the various ports (market centers). It also said must be an improved collaboration between the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, National Petroleum Authority and the National Premix Fuel Committee.
