Inflation drops to 12.2%

The steady drop of inflation continues as a marginal figure of 0.1 per cent was recorded between August and September. September’s inflation rate was 12.2 per cent, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, Deputy Government Statistician Anthony Amuzu said Non-Food inflation also dropped to 14.1 per cent in September from 14.7 per cent recorded the previous month. Food inflation, however, went up to 8.1 per cent from August’s 7.4 per cent. Though he did not readily give reasons for the figures, Mr Amuzu said Transport (21.9), Recreation and Culture, Clothing and Footwear and Miscellaneous (15.4) were among the chief drivers in the Non-Food category. He also mentioned that locally produced goods recorded a lower figure of 11.6 per cent as compared to the 13.5 per cent for imported goods. As regards the regional breakdown, Upper West Region recorded the highest inflation rate of 13.1 per cent with Greater Accra Region coming on its heels with 12.8 per cent.
