Ghana’s first floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, is scheduled to be shut down from Thursday. The shutdown will lapse three weeks after which the vessel will undergo another downtime, from Monday, March 19 to Saturday, April 7. These were disclosed on Tuesday by a Petroleum Engineer at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Albert Longdon. Engineer Longdon also indicated that there will be a third shutdown in November to complete maintenance works on the vessel. He said all these are efforts to make the FPSO operate at full capacity by the end of 2019. Contingency plans have, however, been made to increase oil and gas production this year. A volume of 170,000 barrels per day is expected to be produced this year, which will mark a 10,000bpd increase from last year’s figure. The production will, however, involve all the three oil fields.
