The Asanteman Council is demanding the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu for disrespecting it.
The council has resolved to communicate its decision to President John Mahama, who appointed Kojo Bonsu, that its members are no longer going to work with his appointee, TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo reports.
The Asanteman council arrived at today’s decision following the inability of the Chief Executive to appear before it after he was summoned to explain his “disrespectful” behavior towards the council.
Recounting processes leading to the call for the dismissal, Benjamin recalled a letter written by the KMA boss to question the Amoamanhene, Nana Agyenim Boateng’s standing in a committee overseeing the Kumasi Kejetia market project.
But the Asanteman council took offence to the letter. It claimed the Amoamanhene was seconded to the committee by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and it is a show of disrespect to question his status on the committee.
Last Thursday for instance, the council slaughtered a goat to pacify the Golden Stool for the action of Mr. Kojo Bonsu.
He was therefore given a chance to appear before the council to state his position on the letter. When the council met today, it was rather the Ashanti Regional Minister Mr. John Alexander Ackon who appeared before it.
According to the minister, the KMA boss is unwell so he was there to plead on Mr. Bonsu’s behalf, who is willing to appear before the council next two weeks.
But the council will not budge, Benajmin Aidoo observed.
According to the council, Kojo Bonsu has disrespected it for not showing up and decided to sever ties with him and therefore wants the president to replace him accordingly.
