Her Majesty Magrethe II was warmly welcomed to the palace of the Osu Mantse[/caption] The Queen of Denmark, Her Majesty Magrethe II, has paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and people of Osu. The state visit to Ghana by the Queen of Denmark is a demonstration of the close relations between the two countries. Ghana and Denmark have long-standing historical ties with the first Danes arriving in Ghana in 1659. Queen Magrethe II’s first port of call was at the Osu palace. She later went to the Osu Castle, where she was briefed at first hand on the dark past between Ghana and Denmark during the era of the Slave Trade. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Catherine Afeku acknowledged the relationship between Ghana and Denmark. The Aburihene, Nana Otuobour Djan Kwasi II, said Ghana’s relationship with Denmark must further be strengthened as both countries look forward to forge a relationship based on trade and investment. The Queen was also present at the launch of Stones Tell Stories authored by Professor Nii-Adziri Wellington. The book gives an insight into the history and memories of the people of Osu and the Danish Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Later, Queen Magrethe II witnessed at first hand the training of the youth in craftmanship skills at the Accents and Arts Center. By Portia Gabor|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
