About 51 students of Prempeh College are yet to know their fate, whether they would be allowed to continue their education at the school after the school repeated them for poor performance.
The governing board of the school located in the Ashanti Region have been invited into an emergency meeting to take a decision on the boys who have been repeated as first year students.
If the board is able to reach a consensus that the 51 students should be allowed to stay in the school, it would be required to also determine whether they will enjoy government’s celebrated social intervention programme – Free SHS policy.
The policy covers only first year students enrolled in public senior high schools across the country.
Earlier report suggested that the students had been sacked by the school but this was discounted by the headmaster, TV3 Ibrahim Abubakar who visited Prempeh College reported.
According to the headmaster, he was confused whether to take tuition and other academic related fees from these students taking a cue from sanctions imposed on his colleagues when the Free SHS policy was rolled out.
Ibrahim told TV3 Midday Live on Tuesday that the head of the school is also requesting the board to decide whether those in boarding should be removed from the boarding house.
Latest by close of day Wednesday, the 51 students who are still on campus would know their fate after the board meeting.
