A seven-year-old class two pupil drowned Tuesday morning in an abandoned well when he attempted to draw water to bath for school. Richard Dadzie who is an orphan, was said to have fallen into the well which was constructed by a developer for a building project and now serves as the source of water for the people of Kojokrom, a suburb of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality. His uncle with whom he stayed with, in confirming the incident to Takoradi-based Connect 97.1FM said they had been searching for Dadzie for hours until midday when they got information that he may have been drowned in the well. Mr. Francis Yanbuah said someone informed them that a bucket was spotted just around the well following which they rushed to the scene. At the scene, he said, they suspected the body had submerged in the water hence he used a ladder to descend into the well only to discover the body of Dadzie. The body was then brought out of the well and taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary. The Unit Committee member of Kojokrom Mempentsemnsrew, Abraham Arthur, told Connect FM that parents have turned deaf ear to appeals to desist from sending their children to fetch water from the well.
